Making a web site
using Blogger

Overview

To create a simple brochure web site about your work in Blogger, we will go through the following steps:

  • Decide what content you want to have on your web site.
  • Gather all the materials (CV, statement, images, video, etc.) so you are ready to go when you set up the blog.
  • On the Blogger web site, follow their three-step process (create an account, name your blog, select your template). This will create a standard blog.
  • Create a post on your new blog corresponding to what you want on each page of your web site. Make sure that you post the content that you want on the home page last, because we have seen how the most recent posting is always the one at the top of the blog.
  • Use the Blogger environment to modify the settings and template for your blog to make it more like a brochure web site.

Once you have done all that, you will have a simple brochure web site, with a URL that you can then refer people to.

Creating a Blogger account

As we saw with Photobucket a few weeks ago, you need to create an account to use these free online services. Because Blogger is part of the Google empire, if you already have a Google account (say a Gmail account, for example), you can use your Gmail address and password to log in to Blogger, without setting up a separate account.

If you already have a Google account:
Sign in at the top right of the page on www.blogger.com, using your Google username and password.

If you do not already have a Google account:
Click the Create your blog now arrow on the right of the page on www.blogger.com. The first screen you get to will ask you to set up an account.

Remember to make a note of your password!

Instructions for getting started with Blogger

I have created a little blog that covers the work we did in class - creating posts, modifying the settings in Blogger, modifying the template etc. You will find it here.
